Waging war on levy dodgers

Public opinion will no longer tolerate vested interests which hold society hostage. It also applauds political leaders who are willing to apply the rule of law. This, after all, is precisely what the country had been lacking.

Both the government and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras have earned kudos for their stance toward lawlessness. This, however, should not be their sole target.

Greek citizens can no longer bear the heavy burden of the high taxes being imposed. They have run out of savings and are under tremendous pressure to make ends meet.

The danger of citizens being unable to pay their taxes is now visible. The premier and the government must wage war against every single kind of tax evasion. No one will accept their own financial ruin because some people don’t issue receipts, while others are not doing their jobs properly.

There is absolutely no excuse for the political system’s inability to deal with this major issue.
