PAPAGOS WONDERS: Paris, 4 (From our correspondent Spyros Theodorou) – According to reports from Cannes, the prime minister, Mr Alexandros Papagos, has expressed his surprise at the unexpected reaction on the part of the working classes to the government’s social and economic policy which has not yet produced the hoped-for positive effects in raising the living standards of the people by improving the Greek economy, increasing production and systematically dealing with the serious problem of unemployment. Sources close to the prime minister have expressed their sadness and concern at reports from Athens that protesters are holding violent demon1strations. BANK STRIKE: Bank employees are holding a 24-hour strike today called by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), which could extend to other sectors if a bill on bank staff is not withdrawn.
