Making Athens beautiful again

There is something very depressing about the sight of beautiful facades and monuments marred by the scrawl of graffiti and slogans all around the center the Athens.

Wonderful parts of the city have become unsightly and almost menacing due to the profusion of spray-painted signatures and slogans.

This kind of vandalism gives the city an air of decline and abandonment that is not in keeping with its glorious history nor with its status as one of the world’s premiere tourist destinations.

The recent initiative launched by the City of Athens in cooperation with a group of private companies to scour clean the capital’s monuments and facades is truly commendable and should enjoy popular support.

It goes without saying that we need to preserve our cultural heritage and prevent its destruction, not just for own sake but also for the sake of posterity.
