Undermining democracy

Targeting local politicians and other public figures for physical and verbal abuse is one of the worst phenomena to have emerged from the ongoing Greek crisis.

Over the years certain political forces have invested in this unacceptable form of protest. They have done so possibly without realizing that by acting in this way they are undermining democracy and are paving the way for even more dangerous phenomena and fascist behavior.

For a certain period, incidents of such physical and verbal abuse had appeared to be on the wane in this country.

This form of expression appears to be making a comeback, however, and that is something which should make us ponder.

If we allow this kind of vulgar and dangerous behavior to spread even more, the damage to society and the country as a whole will be immeasurable.
