The democratic rulebook

Irrespective of how the vast majority of Greek citizens and society feels about the attitude and character of Golden Dawn MPs, members and supporters facing charges in the case against the ultranationalist party, what is of prime importance is that the rules of Greek democracy are upheld throughout the entire judicial process and all the procedures that are currently under way.

Although members of the extreme right-wing party are fighting for the abolition of democracy, our democratic institutions must be fair and just during such crucial times in the country’s history.

While Golden Dawn members have resorted to using knives against the people they don’t like, democracy, on the other hand, has a duty to protect their rights to the fullest.

So far the Greek state and its justice system have operated according to and with respect for the law and the country’s institutions. Needless to say, this is exactly how they should continue.
