Creation of research centers
The Ministry of Education is currently working on a new draft bill concerning the creation of research centers in all the Greek regions.
The idea for the project originated from the European Union, which would like to see research funding stemming from its National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) move away from Greece’s major urban areas and reach other parts of the country as well.
This being Greece, of course, let us hope that these novel research centers will not turn into centers for wasting EU subsidies.
The aim is for these institutions to work on realistic ideas for activity and growth, concepts which can be implemented and adapted to each area.
And there’s another thing: These centers should be staffed based on merit and be controlled by a central authority with as much independence as possible, in order to avoid the well-known phenomena that have taken place in the past.
