A step in the right direction
Arms procurements are rarely transparent. Huge economic and political interests are at stake and given the amount of money spent by governments a certain degree of corruption will always be very hard to eliminate.
Recent reports concerning Antonis Kantas – a former official at Greece’s Defense Ministry who has provided substantial evidence linking a representative for German companies Rheinmetall and Atlas Elektronik to the payment of bribes to seal defense contracts – cast light on a long, dark corridor where money has traveled in Greece.
The admission also provides an opportunity to unravel the case and appoint the political and criminal responsibility where it is due.
The people of this country have a right to demand full transparency and an end to illegal profiteering at the expense of the majority. Recent revelations could be a first step.
