OPINION

Onward and upward

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on Thursday clearly laid out the kind of dilemmas facing this country and its people in view of the European Parliament election scheduled to take place in May.

No one doubts that the months ahead will be tough.

Both the coalition government and the prime minister himself must prove that they can simultaneously put up a tough fight in their negotiations with the troika and advance decisively with the implementation of the reforms that the country needs.

As we all know, stagnation doesn’t lead anywhere.

Samaras has already demonstrated that he is not the kind of man who gets trapped in inertia.

This is why, together with a handful of determined cabinet ministers, he must continue on this grueling path, despite the steep gradient, the fatigue and society’s mistrust.
