Refusing to enter the political jungle
Everyone out there is complaining because absolutely no one has seen even a glimpse of the substantial, if not complete, renewal of the country’s political personnel. A kind of sweeping change that all of us would like to see and have dreamed of at one point or another.
But has anyone actually asked those fresh, untarnished faces who managed to became successful in the arena of the real economy whether they would be willing to get involved in the country’s political scene? From what I can gather these days, even if God was to present himself and invite them to get into politics, or at least some position of responsibility in the public sector, the answer would still probably be negative.
Ultimately, this is a major problem for the country. The rules of the jungle that have developed in the domain of public dialogue no doubt serve as a deterrent for many people who would be willing and able to help the country. Times are tough one way or another. Professionals are struggling to make ends meet amid the ongoing crisis and it would be extremely difficult for anyone to get up and leave the security of a paying job to go into politics.
That is not to say I wish to justify the way political parties and their abysmal mechanisms operate. On the contrary, we have all come to realize that they resemble religious cults that make sure they close the blinds out of fear of what would happen if they let any light into the room.
It’s quite incredible how these mechanisms end up adopting suicidal solutions. While the parties are aware of the fact that they would actually earn political points by throwing their support behind an independent or semi-independent candidate, they simply can’t face the thought of telling this simple truth to their own people.
Meanwhile, while the syndrome of introversion is one thing, the reality of serious and capable people refusing to work with political parties on those rare occasions when the latter and their leaders actually do go the extra mile is quite another.
To be honest, this truly toxic environment that drives away and repels any kind of healthy element was fabricated by the partisan media system in order for the latter to be able to recycle itself.
The country has paid a hefty price for the lack of reserves and a capable political staff. And what’s worse still is that the crisis has ended up promoting an assortment of fanatics and enemies of common sense. While this might be visually entertaining, the end result is nothing but.
