Defending key reforms

A series of reforms that are to be put to Parliament for ratification will, if passed and properly implemented, bring significant benefits to Greek consumers and the sluggish economy in general.

The government, however, needs to defend these reforms and explain why they are necessary rather than presenting them as a bitter pill that it has been forced to swallow in order to convince the country’s international creditors to approve the release of the next tranche of bailout funding.

The people of Greece are certainly mature enough to understand that these reforms are important as well as to see that there are certain groups that are bent on opposing the changes because they will curtail many of their privileges.

In order to understand this, however, they need to have it explained in clear terms supported by pragmatic arguments.
