Enough barbarity

The events that took place on Santorini on Holy Saturday, when seven people were injured, including an American tourist who sustained life-threatening injuries, after a firecracker was thrown in a church courtyard in Oia, are nothing but shameful, both for the Cycladic island and the country as a whole.

Some people believe that it’s the ultimate act of modern Greek coolness to celebrate the most important day of Christian Orthodoxy through the use of murderous explosives. These people committed a major crime, not only against their innocent victims, but in terms of the country’s international reputation as well.

It’s time for the Greek Church, the local communities and the authorities to wipe out all these inhuman and barbaric habits, once and for all.

Those responsible for the events on Santorini ought to be punished severely, enough to be made an example of, for they have caused too much damage and pain.
