Stamping out hooliganism

Hooliganism needs to be eradicated from the realm of Greek soccer once and for all, with radical and decisive measures that will also prevent it from ever rearing its ugly head again.

Hooliganism, one of the most serious symptoms of sickness in a society, has been effectively wiped out in other parts of the world. In other European countries where the problem was particularly bad, the process of getting rid of the hooligans was simple: strict adherence to the law and swiftly punishing any violations.

Even if it were to start imposing measures today, Greece would still have a long way to go in order to be able to say with confidence that soccer and other sports that have been known to attract violent elements are a healthy part of a healthy society. But the ball needs to get rolling and everyone involved needs to support initiatives to this end.
