Avoiding disaster

No one should underestimate the importance of Sunday’s European Parliament elections. Voter abstinence as well as unconsidered voting simply cannot be justified.

One way or another the upcoming confrontation has turned into a viability test for the coalition government.

The Greek people are invited to decide between their obvious desire to punish the local political system and the country’s need for stability.

The local electorate has every right to feel angry, not only because it has suffered the brutal consequences of the crisis, but also because it often observes the country’s political staff maintaining their old habits.

The country, however, is going through a particularly fragile period and its journey toward a refueling of the real economy could be endangered as a result of a political accident. Let’s not forget this as we head to the ballot box.
