Safeguarding universities

The situation at Greek universities has spiraled out of control. There are now cases where professors are subjected to insults in public without anyone raising an eyebrow.

There are also instances of students waiting to receive their degrees in order to move on to postgraduate studies they have been accepted for, but who instead have ended up hostage to the kind of ruthless vested interests that have shut down several of the country’s higher education faculties.

Regardless of who is responsible for this particularly disastrous situation, parties across the political spectrum should condemn all kinds of violence and atrocities carried out at Greek universities.

As far as the coalition government is concerned, the administration ought to safeguard legitimacy as well as anyone turning into a target for the vandals currently in charge of our higher education institutions.
