Investors’ fears

Major international players close to sealing considerable investments in Greece are also one step away from withdrawing all interest. They are clearly afraid of the political risk and the possibility of an administration that would, at best, deal with investment and privatization issues with suspicion.

At the same time, the current government seems to have lost its dedication to the matter and to be lacking in the necessary follow-up with regard to big investments. The Greek justice system is also dragging its feet and adding to all the uncertainty and the feeling that perhaps the country is not really seeking investments after all. Nevertheless, a major effort has been made to improve the country’s negative image and make it more attractive to those wishing to place their capital here.

If these people abandon Greece they won’t be back for a long time, while all we’ll be left with will be the illusion that our country is the world’s sole investment destination.
