Ending an injustice

A decision reached by Greece’s highest administrative court, the Council of State, regarding the issue of objective property values was the right one.

The decision will finally bring to an end to a considerable injustice which has been inflicted upon too many Greek people.

Property owners in this country ended up turning into tax evasion suspects as a result of the state’s inability to carry out its duties properly.

Owners of properties were ordered to pay an unbearable amount in taxes at the worst possible time.

In the end, a great deal of these people found themselves trapped in a situation which did not allow for them to either sell or rent out their properties.

This is why the decision reached by the Council of State will prove particularly helpful in this matter, given that from now on taxes will be calculated according to actual market prices.

These rates differ considerably from the ones which high-ranking officials have insisted until now on imposing.
