Keeping the peace

Demonstrations that erupt into violence, shaking the Greek capital and affecting the country’s image as a whole, like the ones experienced in 2008, should not be repeated. Athens cannot become a battleground again as it was in December of that year and on other occasions.

The city has suffered enough from such outbursts and the country’s image has been heavily tarnished by images of violence that made the round of the world.

With time, the wounds from those years have healed and downtown Athens has started to get back its usual, vibrant pace. New stores are opening every day and new neighborhoods are emerging as hot spots.

We cannot allow this progress to be undone this weekend just for the sake of pandering to hooligans that are addicted with violence and chaos.
