OPINION

Wise words

Two former prime ministers have come forward and done their duty by calling on the country’s political leaders to reach some level of consensus in a bid to spare the country from worse turmoil.

Whether one agrees with the legacy or exhortations of these political veterans or not, their warnings should be heeded on the basis of their experience and knowledge of how things work in Europe.

We have a tendency here in Greece to make snap judgments on any pretext. However, these are extraordinary times we are living in and it will do us no harm to calm down and listen to those leaders who have already lived through turbulent times and who do not want to see the country reliving such tragedies again.

In fact, Greece would have been on a very different path today if we had heeded these politicians earlier.
