OPINION

Every little bit helps

There is no time like the present for us to renew our efforts to carry out our duty toward those of our fellow citizens who have suffered more than most during the last four years of austerity and cutbacks.

The Church of Greece, nongovernmental organizations and local community groups are doing all within their power to give the victims of the crisis a helping hand but they cannot meet this enormous challenge alone. Everyone needs to pitch in in any way they can, with whatever means they have at their disposal.

But one of our main duties as citizens of this country is to teach our children, to educate the younger generation so that they understand the magnitude of the problems that so many members of our society are facing and to make them realize the importance of making a positive contribution toward improving the lot of those less fortunate.

Insensitivity and indifference to their situation is simply inexcusable, especially at times like these.
