World opinion counts

With the start of the new year, the Greek people are hoping that the political parties eyeing victory and their ascension to government in the upcoming elections, as well as those who are fighting just to get into Parliament, have also been keeping a wary eye on international media reports and statements by foreign officials regarding Greece.

The candidates must be aware that their behavior is not being scrutinized in Greece alone but by others abroad too. What they do is no longer exclusively of domestic interest.

The January 25 elections will determine the fate of our crisis-hit country and that fate is not just in the hands of the Greek electorate but also foreign players who have the power to alter the course of the country.

Observing, studying and properly interpreting what is being said and written about Greece outside the country’s borders is absolutely essential and an important sign of political maturity.
