Threats are not the answer

The country needs to reach a rudimentary level of national understanding and unity in order to overcome its problems and move on.

For the time being, however, it finds itself rolling downhill over a pile of threats and extreme polarization of the kind which can only lead to no good.

The issues currently plaguing Greece cannot be solved through threats of people going under the guillotine and standing trial. Every time the local political system has become immersed in this type of atrocious discussion the country has ended up paying a hefty price.

While it is true that popular sentiment may be temporarily satisfied when certain politicians use big words, the ones uttering them also end up falling victim to savage populism.

Justice does and must carry out its duties in cases of serious scandals. Announcing pogroms and promises of public decapitations are a serious faux pas, no matter where they come from.
