GREEK ROYAL COUPLE’S VISIT TO USA: New York, 2 – New York reserved an enthusiastic welcome today for Greece’s royal couple (King Pavlos and Queen Frederiki) at the official reception held at City Hall as well as during a parade through the main avenues of the most populous US city. (…) In bright sunshine and with Greek flags fluttering alongside the Stars and Stripes, 750,000 New Yorkers jostled along the roads leading from the financial district to City Hall. Cries of «Long live (the King)» in Greek from the crowds of Greek Americans met the motorcade, to be taken up by other Americans lining the route. (…) As the king and queen headed toward City Hall, aircraft flew overhead in a formation reading «Long Live Pavlos and Frederiki.» TERRORISM: The trial began in an Athens courtroom yesterday of 64 Communists, members of the terrorist wing of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and various of their associates, as well as members of the «Athens self-defense unit,» who had been tried two and three years ago by a military court along with others who were executed.
