BARREL WINE: (From «An Athenian’s Notes») – «While at least half the tavernas in Athens have very good wine, often extremely good, bottled Greek wines are considered mediocre, and sometimes even of a poor quality. And the unfortunate thing is that they are very expensive. That is the main reason that most people eating in restaurants prefer to drink beer.» TOY MARKET: The market, and particularly that children’s paradise Aeolou Street, is inundated once more this year with the latest new toys. Most of the new toys are made of bakelite, which appears to have replaced tin. The most interesting of the new toys are a plastic machine gun which shoots small silver sweets instead of bullets, and a parachutist which is shot into the air by a spring and floats down under a small silk parachute. Then there is an ape made of bakelite, which does acrobatics on a pole.
