DEFENSE EXPENDITURES: (Commentary in Kathimerini): «(…) The American public has the mistaken impression that we want to increase military expenditures solely for our own purposes and not for the defense of the entire Western world. We are not, of course, in any position to enlighten the American public. The US government knows very well that Greece’s defense is necessary for the defense of the West, which is led by the US. (…) The American people could realize the importance of Greece’s defense problem only if its government apprises them of it.» CHANGES IN KKE: According to an announcement broadcast on the outlaw communists’ radio station on foreign territory, on December 30 the «fourth plenary» of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) met and discussed the future of the «patriotic movement in Greece,» KKE’s action plan and organizational issues, with priority being given to the amendment of KKE’s charter and the redistribution of its members.
