OMONIA AND CROWDS: (From a report by L.G. Koromilas): Every day, 181,682 pairs of feet pass through Omonia Square, from the surrounding sidewalks to the central square. And of this number, only 32,682 emerge from the underground urban rail station. Therefore, the remaining 149,336 pairs of feet go back across the square into the surrounding streets. These numbers are precise, as they were counted in a special survey conducted for this purpose by a private firm. Care was taken to ensure that the count was made on a weekday, when no unusual events were occurring. The survey was conducted between 7.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. so that it would constitute an average day’s traffic. SPYROS PATSIS: Yesterday at 7 p.m., the former Mayor of Athens and Parliamentary deputy Spyros Patsis died at his home at 48 Solomou Street at the age of 94. (…) Patsis had been one of the closest associates of Eleftherios Venizelos and served for a total of 10 years as mayor of Athens. In 1936, he was elected to Parliament.
