Turning the page

The agreement reached between Greece and its creditors in Brussels early Monday is problematic, but at the same time the only one that can guarantee the country’s eurozone membership.

Thoes who pay all their taxes on time, who now realize that they will have to take on ever greater financial burdens, have every right to be angry.

The knowledge that their tax money goes toward a bloated, inefficient and vicious public sector adds to this anger.

It is the duty of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to persuade the Greeks that he will implement the deal agreed to with the other members of the eurozone and that he will form a credible government.

Meanwhile, the country’s serious opposition will undoubtedly approve the Brussels agreement.

It is time for the premier to demonstrate – in a tangible way – that he is interested in a national consensus and that he is ready to turn the page, starting today.
