GOLD SOVEREIGN: The deputy minister for coordination, Mr T. Kapsalis, said yesterday in response to a question regarding the rising price of the gold sovereign that those who were lured by vague rumors and bought the sovereign at high prices would bitterly regret it. (…) The increased demand for gold sovereigns over the past two weeks continued yesterday, but at a somewhat slower rate (…). The price of the gold sovereign on the Athens Stock Exchange the day before yesterday ranged between 332,000 and 333,000 drachmas. (On December 31, 1953, it ranged between 319,000 and 323,500 drachmas.) MARKEZINIS ACTING PRIME MINISTER: The prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos, took his leave yesterday of the king (Pavlos) in view of his departure today for Paris by train. Minister for Coordination Spyros Markezinis will be acting for Field Marshal Papagos during his absence. CYPRUS: Nicosia, 15 – Cyprus today celebrated the fourth anniversary of the historic referendum of January 15 with church services and national events.
