Handle with care

The European Union’s reaction to the refugee crisis that is testing the entire bloc is yet another sign of the diverse and often conflicting interests of its member-states.

It also shows us how difficult and time-consuming it is for the EU to get its members on the same page or to devise a strategy that will pass muster with all of them and be implemented in time to make a difference.

Because of its geographical position, Greece is at the epicenter of this ever-growing crisis and it is absolutely no position to handle the huge influx it has been receiving alone.

The refugee crisis is a problem that is exceptionally complex and multifaceted. The pressure is so great, moreover, that it would not take much to make the situation explosive.

Athens need to be extremely cautious in any decisions it takes in regard to managing the crisis because every mistake made today will continue to have consequences far into the future.
