Transparency is more than essential when it comes to how and from where political parties and candidates get their funding, as well as how they spend that money.
Over the past few days, we have observed some very costly events and actions being held as part of the campaign in the runup to the elections for a new leader of the New Democracy party.
The authorities overseeing the conservative party need to question all of the candidates carefully and demand explanations regarding where exactly they’re getting the money to run their campaigns.
Otherwise, questions may arise regarding whether there are other forces at play, forces that do not have any institutional role in the process, and what exactly their interest may be.
The least the party should demand is that the same rules imposed on candidates and parties during the general elections apply to the conservative candidates today.
