False move

Certain European officials have in the past uttered serious accusations against Greece. Similarly, Greek officials have used very strong language in reference to their European counterparts. Europe is no stranger to such behavior. In fact the continent has traditionally absorbed its internal contradictions.

That said, recalling a Greek ambassador from a fellow EU member is a very unusual gesture. It is also an inexcusable one. Greece must learn how to defend what is right and respond to challenges without resorting to populist or over-the-top gestures. Athens will most likely soon have to pay a price for yesterday’s decision.
