Stuck in the past
The shocking manner in which the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition government decides upon crucial appointments in the country’s public sector has gone beyond all limits of self-serving behavior and nepotism.
It is time for this sick and infuriating phenomenon, which is taking the country back to the 1980s, to come to an end.
The minister in charge appears to realize what the problem is, along with a number of other government officials.
However, they are faced with a party mechanism displaying a major appetite for power.
Nevertheless, some kind of solution ought to be found swiftly, following consultations with the opposition, for the introduction of rules and flexible institutions, which, from then on, will forbid the recycling of this ill-fated old-school partisan tradition.
