OPINION

Boiling point

The chaotic conditions that have been allowed to prevail at makeshift migrant and refugee camps in the port city of Piraeus, on the northern border at Idomeni and so many other locations could very soon deteriorate and give rise to dangerous phenomena.

We are already hearing of violent altercations taking place between migrants and refugees, some over serious issues such as food.

At some point, the absence of law and order in these migrant camps, the state’s inability to impose some rules and standards, in combination with the terrible living conditions, will almost inevitably push some of these desperate people toward extreme actions.

Seeing, meanwhile, how Greece is somewhat known for allowing almost anything to go when it comes to public protests, it is likely that we will soon be witness to dangerous and out-of-control behavior.
