Unionism gone too far
Protest actions by organized labor unions should not cross certain lines, as has been the case here in Greece in the past few weeks.
The most recent example of the above was the threat over the weekend by the Technical Chamber to strike from its lists ministers and lawmakers belonging to the ruling coalition government.
The very idea of throwing someone out of a union to which they belong because of what they voted is unacceptable.
Lawmakers are not supposed to act as representatives of the interests of a particular group of professionals. Rather, their only concern when making important decisions should be the greater good.
Sure, the anger felt by many professional groups at the new measures introduced by the government for overhauling the social security and tax systems is perfectly understandable. However, there are other better and more effective ways for this anger to be expressed.
