The strategy of division

The government’s strategy of political and social division is potentially catastrophic. It earned ruling SYRIZA votes and there are those who consider division to be a legitimate political tool. Clearly, however, these people don’t know their history and fail to realize that Greece has paid dearly for discord ever since the modern state’s inception. Great leaders have always acted in an unifying manner, as no country makes progress when divided.

Hundreds of thousands of voters disagreed with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the time of the ill-fated referendum last summer. Their vast majority were hard-working Greeks who pay their taxes and love their country. They wanted to see Greece remain in the eurozone and were relieved to see Tsipras take a step in that direction instead of throwing the country off a cliff.

The political hooliganism through which SYRIZA rose to power is, unfortunately, still alive within its own ranks. There are those who believe that curses and hate speech exorcize the Furies of compromise. They are doing a lot of damage to the country.
