OPINION

Narrow judgment

It is of vital importance that we should calmly analyze and fully understand any landmark developments affecting our country’s interests. This is the case with the Brexit decision reached by British voters.

The first response and interpretation of Thursday’s historical referendum regarding the United Kingdom’s European Union membership by leading members of Greece’s political system left us feeling nothing short of disappointed.

The same disappointment was felt by those listening to the comments made by a large portion of local analysts and observers in regard to the outcome.

The country seems to have developed an introspective and rather limited point of view that leads to absolutely everything being analyzed through an anti-bailout prism.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world does not view the situation in the same way as we do and they fail to understand our positions. And, ultimately, this is the worst thing that could happen to a country that is entirely dependant on its geopolitical relationships and regional balances.
