Smashed credibility
Credibility is the most important thing that a country can be known for. It is an attribute that takes a lot of time and effort to acquire and just a single mistake to lose.
The government’s handling of the privatization of Piraeus Port and the problems that were created with Chinese shipping giant Cosco should normally have led to the ouster of the officials involved.
The prime minister himself had stepped in to seal an agreement that would have geopolitical significance and was of interest to the highest echelons of the Chinese leadership.
It is absolutely outrageous that someone attempted to change the agreement in such a way. The damage to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s and the country’s credibility is enormous.
