February 27 – March 2, 1954
LAST TRAM: That charming custom that began in Greece after the war when performances finished in time for people to catch the last tram or bus is slowly dying out. Most theater performances end just after midnight, a few minutes after the the last bus has left the terminus. With a little good will it would be possible to finish shows a quarter of an hour earlier. The theaters would then attract larger crowds. Now people think twice about adding the cost of a taxi home to the cost of the theater ticket. GREECE-FRANCE: The following people have been elected to the board of the Greek-French Cultural Union: President A. Kantakouzinos, Vice President N. Hadzikyriakos-Ghika, General Secretary A. Patsifas, Treasurer D. Mazarakis and councilors F. Vegleris, G Theotokos, A. Lemos, G. Pappas and Manolis Hadjidakis. GOLD SOVEREIGN: Yesterday (February 27) after the announcement of a government decision to intervene in the market with the sale of gold sovereigns by the Bank of Greece, there was a sudden drop in the price to 310,000 drachmas, closing at 311,500 drachmas.
