Safeguarding institutions
The Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, is one of Greece’s most important institutions. It has succeeded in maintaining its independence on many difficult occasions in our history.
Now it is being called upon to rule on the recent auction of television licenses.
What judgment the Council of State will reach is of course an issue but not the most important. What is of utmost significance is that the authority and prestige of the court as an institution be safeguarded as regards the process by which it reaches its verdict.
This will justify the continuation of its pivotal function.
After all, there are not many institutions that have emerged unscathed from the overall degradation we are seeing in this country.
