ADENAUER TALKS TO KATHIMERINI: Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Konrad Adenauer arrived in Athens (on the evening of March 9) (…) where he will have talks of a political nature with Prime Minister Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos. Dr Adenauer agreed to reply to four questions put to him by Kathimerini. His replies are as follows: «(…) Greece has become one of the cornerstones of the free world. Of this fact, we in Germany are fully aware, as we are of the heavy economic burden on your country in order to maintain its excellent army in the service of the free world. (…) We want unity in Europe above all, in order to guarantee freedom for its peoples and to give them a higher living standard. This goal is not directed against anyone. Prosperity, growth and progress are only conceivable in the Old Continent when borders and restrictions are removed.(…)» RAILROAD IN WESTERN THRACE: The economy minister and the representatives of the French railway company of Western Thrace signed an agreement (on March 8) granting the railway to the Greek State.
