High-risk strategy
It’s been almost two years since Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras rose to power. He had absolutely no idea what he was getting into. He made no serious preparations and, for an extended period, actually gambled the nation’s future.
Whenever he comes under serious pressure, Tsipras reacts by pursuing the same high-risk strategy. His unilateral decision to grant a one-off Christmas bonus to pensioners was an unreasonable gesture. First, because he should rather have spent the money on growth-inducing measures and second, because he angered Greece’s few allies and gave ammunition to the champions of Grexit.
The damage is significant – and this will become evident soon.
