OPINION

A uniquely Greek situation

Violence is an integral part of Greek university life as general lawlessness reigns supreme. And unfortunately this is nothing new as universities have over the years gradually succumbed to the law of the jungle.

Not a day goes by without some violent incident, which usually includes attacks on professors and the destruction of facilities. And what’s worse, no one is doing anything about it. Deans are trapped in a state of fear, while the state remains simply indifferent.

This is a uniquely Greek phenomenon as this kind of situation does not exist anywhere else in the civilized world.
