A long road ahead of us

The tourism sector has emerged as a heavyweight among Greek industries, having withstood the test of time and the storm of the crisis. For this reason, we must protect it as much as possible.

We simply cannot keep making our tourism goals all about breaking records in terms of arrivals and how much they spend. We must have high-quality and profitable tourism.

However, this is not possible without making serious improvements to our infrastructure, limiting the number of visitors to top destinations such as the Acropolis and islands that tend to get overcrowded at peak season, and creating high-caliber accommodation units.

Some steps have already been made in this direction and the results show that they have contributed greatly to the better representation of the tourism industry.

Despite all of this, though, we have a long road ahead of us.

The risk remains of an opportunistic “boom” that will not stand the test of time.
