EDUCATION: The education minister, Mr K. Kallias, has informed Parliament that 70 teachers have been dismissed because they were not nationalists. An examination of other teachers’ files is also being carried out. He assured Parliament that no one would remain (on the job) who did not have Greece in his heart. TRADE WITH USSR: The Trade Ministry has announced that the tender has been accepted in Russia for the supply of $340,000 worth of paraffin for the needs of the state monopoly. HIGH SCHOOL CHILDREN: High school children in Thebes, who have quite rightly been banned from the cinemas, have invented a code to inform the others in the event of a raid by a teacher: «Fire!» The result was that as soon as the headmaster entered the theater, the signal was given and the audience streamed out in a panic, many of them injuring themselves in the process of trying to escape what they thought was a fire on the premises. The signal was admittedly symbolic, and will provide fuel for their own fire.
