Lawlessness intensifies

Self-styled anarchist collectives have intensified their violent attacks on university campuses. At the same time, they have taken their campaign beyond the country’s capital.

Recent incidents at the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki indicate that the so-called asylum law (which prevents police from entering campuses) has exposed the academic community to attacks.

Meanwhile, any efforts by university leaders to contain lawlessness are destined to fail so long as the government tolerates it as an expression of democratic rights.

Ruling officials seem oblivious to the fact that lawless behavior is becoming an ever-more-present part of people’s daily routine – unless of course they view society as a jungle.
