Division and denial
Greece has picked the most inopportune moment possible to turn in on itself, amid a highly polarized atmosphere in the country.
The Middle East is on the verge of a new crisis of tremendous proportions and Turkey has no qualms about stepping up its threats in the Aegean and Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
The government bears great responsibility in this situation. The coalition currently in power in Athens is the one that has sought, through both its actions and its rhetoric, to undermine the political system and to divide citizens into those who support and those who oppose the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks (ANEL) administration.
It is clear that the government continues to believe that everything will go according to its expectations. This appears to be a case of denial.
