OLYMPIC STADIUM: (From the column «An Athenian’s Notes»): I do not know why the area between Kalogreza and Maroussi has been chosen as the site for a future stadium. I must admit that if I had been able to offer an opinion, I would have asked why we need a new stadium at all. The Panathinaic Stadium that we have in the center of the city is wonderful, and despite what some supposed experts say, serves its purpose. We have so many other needs that a new stadium should be at the bottom of the list. When we do not have enough bread, then we can do without entertainment. In any case, do so many people need to lose their land in order for the new stadium to be built? There are plenty of arid areas around Athens that could be used for this purpose. G. SPATALAS: A study by Mr Gerasimos Spatalas titled «Meter in Modern Tonal Lyrics,» which is a sequel to his earlier study «Tonal Lyrics, Ancient Greek Lyrics,» has just been published. It contains a severe examination of the lyrical theories of A.R. Rangavis and proves that there were serious lyrical errors in the works of Goethe, Von Platten, Kardoutsis, D’Annuncio, Mavilis, Theotokis and other writers who used this method.
