PROGRESSIVES’ PARTY: The former minister for coordination, Mr Spyros Markezinis, yesterday announced the founding of a party titled the «Party of Progressives,» initiated by 22 parliamentary deputies who recently declared themselves independent. Of the opposition parties in the current Parliament, the new party is second in size with 23 deputies compared to 36 for the Liberals. Yesterday evening, Mr Markezinis made the following statements: «I announce the foundation of the Party of Progressives. The Greek Rally party, which we helped to set up and which won the elections, has now entered a phase of irreversible decline. (…) It has become limited by old artisan tactics and is a hostage to the past. Fighters never sit with their arms folded, waiting for the inevitable, but provide solutions. That is what we have been doing since we set out as a band of fighters in the hard days of the wartime occupation; our only ambition is to give shape to the demands of our times.» KARAMANLIS’S WORK: Larissa, 2 – Work on the construction of a new highway between Larissa, the Vale of Tempe and Thessaloniki is continuing. The army’s excavation of the Tempe section is expected to be completed this spring.
