EOKA PROCLAMATIONS: Nicosia, 7 – As the authorities in Cyprus began last night to step up their terrorizing of the Greek population of the island by forming small joint army and police patrols day and night in all Cypriot towns, members of the patriotic organization EOKA (National Organization of Cypriot Militants) posted revolutionary proclamations on walls along main streets in many towns. These proclamations were nearly all affixed on top of government posters offering rewards of 250 pounds for information leading to the arrest of Grigoris Avxentiou. (…). «In the face of this dismissal of our rights,» said the proclamation, «violence is the only means of defense for people who want their freedom.»
