PRELUDE TO KARAMANLIS PREMIERSHIP: Thessaloniki, 2 – This morning the minister for transport and public works, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, and minister to the prime minister, Mr Georgios Rallis, inspected public works under construction in the city. (…) At 10.30, Mr Karamanlis and Mr Rallis left to visit the Axios and Aliakmonos dams. Mr Karamanlis observed that the construction of the Axios dam, which will irrigate 35,000 hectares, was proceeding apace and should be completed on schedule. Afterward, the two ministers moved on to the town of Veria, where a large crowd was awaiting them in the main square. The local mayor presented Mr Karamanlis with a resolution declaring him an honorary citizen of the town. Mr Karamanlis gave the following reply: «The life of a person involved in politics is a hard one, full of hope, care and struggle. When that politician earns the recognition of the people, then he has the satisfaction of knowing that his struggle is recognized. (…) I hope that God will help me and that I will have the strength to continue my work.» SALK VACCINE: The Supreme Health Council has announced its approval of the sale in Greece of the Salk vaccine against poliomyelitis.
