POPULAR THEATER: A number of performances unprecedented since the revival of classical masterpieces in ancient Greek amphitheaters are being staged over the coming month. In Athens, travel agencies and excursion groups are preparing to enjoy a wonderful spectacle, particularly Euripides’ «Hecuba,» Sophocles’ «Oedipus Rex» and Euripides’ «Hippolytus.» The first tragedy will be performed on Sunday, June 19. PARTY LEADERS: Yesterday morning, King Pavlos had successive half-hour meetings with each of the following leaders: Mr Constantine Tsaldaris of the People’s Party, Mr Sophocles Venizelos of the Liberal Democratic Union, Mr Spyros Markezinis of the Progressive Party, and Mr George Papandreou of the Liberal Party. ZOLOTAS: This morning the governor of the Bank of Greece, Mr Xenophon Zolotas, left by air for Basel, Switzerland, accompanied by the bank’s economic adviser, Mr Ioannis Pesmazoglou. Mr Zolotas will be representing Greece at the annual meeting of the Bank of International Settlements. IN BELGIUM: One hundred unskilled workers left last night by train for Belgium to work in the coal mines.
